What is CMS?

CMS or content management system is any system installed on your server that will enable you or anyone else to create, edit and manage content on the website. The content can be text, image, video, graphics, audio etc. There are hundreds of CMS available on the web and most of them are open source, that means you can instal them for free.

Some CMS that I am familiar with include wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Typo3 and Simple CMS. These CMS’s are avaliable free and can be easily installed to your server. They also come with free template and add-ons (extensions or plugins) that can enhance your website. I suggest you research the CMS before installing to your server. One way you can do this is to try out free demos at Opensourcedemos. This website is really great for trying out the different opensource CMS available on the web. You can have look at the admin dashboard and get feel of how you can manage the CMS using the temporary logging in username and password provided.

Best wishes.
