The Akuzike group has 15 women who are based in Lilongwe. The women are married and between them they have 31 dependents looking up to them. In order to support themselves and their families the women all run small-scale businesses. They sell fish, snacks, vegetables, groceries and clothes. They require this loan to buy more stock for their businesses.
One of the members of the group is called Fanny. She sells clothes to earn a living. She is married to a driver and they have 3 children. She plans to buy a bale of second-hand clothes with her portion of the loan. Fanny has been running her business for 2 years. She started it so she could earn enough money to provide for the basic needs of her family. She plans to build a house for her family in the near future.
